Dear Mt. Diablo Unified School District and Community,

We hope you and your family are enjoying the summer break. Our first day of school is August 12th, which is only three weeks away. All Mt. Diablo Unified School District schools will return to pre-pandemic schedules, full-time and five days a week. We cannot express how excited we are to welcome all of our students back in person. California’s waiver that allowed school districts to provide distance learning has expired, so schools are required to offer full-time in-person instruction this new school year, although families can still choose an alternative program through independent study.

As students and staff prepare for the new academic year, the continued health and safety of all is our top priority. Procedures continue to evolve. According to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), masks are still required when indoors in TK-12 schools and optional outdoors. MDUSD continues to monitor guidance from the CDPH, and will inform parents, students, staff and the community of changes in health and safety practices if/when guidance is changed in a manner that impacts our community.

Protocols such as face coverings, at home self-check health screenings, hygienic procedures, and increased air circulation in classrooms and buses will continue to be in effect. Additionally, these enhanced health and safety protocols will continue in our extra-curricular activities such as athletics, visual and performing arts and after school programs. Specific athletic protocols from the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) have not been shared yet, but should be released soon. We will share any CIF updates as soon as we receive them.

Please continue to visit the MDUSD website for important announcements and updates. Also, your school office will be sending out more detailed information regarding opening activities and protocols.

Again, we are overjoyed that students will be back on their campuses with their peers. Welcome to the 2021-2022 academic year!

Adam Clark, Ed.D

Superintendent, Mt. Diablo Unified School District
