Tax Exemption
Property owners who are 65 years or older and live in a home they own within the Mt. Diablo Unified School Districtmay be eligible for a Senior Exemption from the District's parcel tax.
Senior Exemption from Measure A
Senior homeowners in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District who are age 65 or older (by July 1 of the current tax year) and live in the residence may apply for an exemption to the $67 per year Measure A Mello-Roos tax collected through property taxes.
Seniors with exemptions do not need to reapply. Those seniors who have received the exemption in the past will have their exemptions automatically renewed.
Exemptions must be filed with the Mt. Diablo School District by June 1 of the current tax year. To obtain an exemption form, please call (925) 682-8000, ext. 4004 (message recorder). The district is unable to process rebates for previous year's Contra Costa County property tax collection.

MEASURE A
Background
In 1989, over 71% of the electorate in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District voted for a Mello-Roos parcel tax known as "Measure A." Voter approval resulted from the recognition that the school district faced overwhelming facility needs for which no funds were available. Measure A has proved to be a lifesaver for district students.Measure A authorized the school district to sell up to $90 million in bonds to rehabilitate and upgrade its aging schools and centers.
Accomplishments
Some of the major projects funded by Measure A include- Repaired or replaced heating systems at 39 schools
- Installed intercoms, clocks, and fire alarm systems at 24 schools
- Replaced or repaired floor coverings at 40 schools
- Remodeled 43 restrooms to make them accessible to all
- Installed turf at schools lacking play fields
- Installed acres of new blacktop and paving
- Repaired 27 portable classrooms
- Improved exterior lighting at 22 schools
- Painted every school exterior
- Re-roofed 42 schools
- Built new Multipurpose rooms at 13 schools
- Built gyms at 7 middle schools
- Installed security systems at all schools
- Replaced or repaired lockers at 6 high schools
- Heating projects at 9 schools
- Roofing repairs at 4 schools
- Paving work at 3 schools
- Restroom accessibility improvements at 4 schools
- Handicapped parking improvements at 6 schools
- Ramps to improve accessibility at 7 schools
- Floor covering repair at 17 schools
- Individual projects such as exterior lighting, bifold door replacement, and turfing
- Wheel chair lifts for stages at 25 schools to improve accessibility
